Build a route around loading and unloading
Lay Track, add a Wagon Launch Station and a Wagon Receiving Station, then connect production through Wagon Loaders and Wagon Unloaders. The launch station charges wagons for rail travel; the receiving station receives arrivals and unloads their cargo.
Connect a working delivery route
- Place wagons in the Wagon Launch Station. Add tags or colors when you want the network to distinguish different wagon routes.
- Connect production belts to the Wagon Loader. It has two conveyor inputs, packages incoming materials and can hold up to four packages at a time.
- Configure the route to bring the matching wagon to its loading station. In the linen-loading example, the tagged empty wagon stops to pick up a prepared stack.
- At the destination, use a Wagon Unloader to unpack cargo and send the materials out through conveyors. Configure its wagon filters to select the deliveries it should handle.
Choose tags, colors or cargo for routing
- A Track Sorter directs matching wagons onto a branch track according to its configured filter rules. Use the sorter orientation that fits the branch.
- Track Sorter filters can use cargo, color or tag. Tag filters match the beginning of the tag, so use consistent tag prefixes when organizing routes.
- Cargo filters can send a loaded wagon to the station for the item it carries. Color and tag filters can also guide wagons to different factory floors.
Decide where rail logistics earns its space
- When is a wagon route useful compared with local belts?
- Consider rail for transport across a large factory or between distant floors. Short connections between neighboring machines can remain on belts; moving goods across many levels is where a wagon route can offer a more flexible layout.
- What should I inspect when a wagon takes the wrong branch?
- Check the Track Sorter rule, the wagon tag or color, and its current cargo. A loaded wagon can match a cargo filter, while a tag filter matches the start of its tag; combinations of branches and floor routes need consistent filters.
