Steel comes from an Athanor
Supply an Athanor with 1 Iron Ingot and 1 Coke Powder for a Steel Ingot attempt. The base craft takes 4 seconds; the successful output is 1 Steel Ingot.
The base Athanor recipe has a 75% failure rate. A failed outcome returns 1 Iron Ingot, so plan the line around both Steel production and returned Iron.
Keep the two outcomes separate
- Feed the Iron Ingot and Coke Powder inputs to the Athanor recipe and allow for its failed attempts when planning Steel output.
- Preserve the returned Iron from failed Athanor crafts for reuse, and route successful Steel Ingots toward the component line.
- For Steel Gears, use a Processor. Its recipe converts 1 Steel Ingot into 1 Steel Gear in 16 seconds.
Understand the Iron output
- Why is the Steel line returning Iron Ingots?
- Iron is the failed outcome of the Steel recipe. The Athanor uses Iron Ingot and Coke Powder, and its base failure output returns an Iron Ingot instead of producing Steel.
- Which machine makes Steel Gears from the finished ingots?
- Route Steel Ingots into a Processor set to Steel Gear. Each craft uses 1 Steel Ingot and produces 1 Steel Gear with a base recipe time of 16 seconds.
