Choose the calculator for your task
Use the Production Planner for an item’s production chain, the Cauldron Calculator for ingredient combinations, and the Heating Calculator for your devices and fuel. The Production Planner lists the devices and requirements needed to make the selected item at full production.
Treat a calculator’s result as a plan for its displayed data version. Match your own upgrade levels and device quantities before using it to size a factory; a result from an older heat model can include costs that your updated game has removed.
Enter a production target before scaling the factory
- Open the Production Planner and select the item you want to produce.
- Set the output target and the upgrade settings that match your factory. Keep the units shown beside the target in mind when comparing it with your own output.
- Read the required devices and inputs, then compare those requirements with the machines and supply lines you have built.
- Change a target or upgrade setting and read the recalculated requirements before expanding. Keep the same game data version when comparing alternative plans.
Reproduce the displayed heating example
- Open the Heating Calculator and check the displayed Game Version: 0.5.4471 (Early Access).
- Leave Factory Efficiency and Fuel Efficiency at level 0. Enter 4 Stone Furnaces and 0 Blast Furnaces.
- Add 1 Crucible as the heat consumer and select Logs as the fuel.
- Read the consumer subtotal, the separate heating-device subtotal, and their total before using the fuel estimate.
| Option | Details |
|---|---|
| Consumer Heat | 4.0/sec |
| Heating Device Heat | 4.0/sec |
| Total Heat | 8.0/sec |
| Logs needed | 0.2/min at the displayed rounding precision |
Check the version before copying the result
- Why can this example overestimate heat in an updated save?
- The tested Codex tool displays the 0.5.4471 Early Access data version and adds a separate Heating Device Heat cost. A later game change removed the base heat cost of heating devices. The displayed 8.0/sec example therefore describes that calculator’s model and is not a current-game furnace fuel requirement.
- What should I compare when my save gives a different result?
- Compare the tool’s version label with your game version, then check the consumer count, heating devices, fuel and upgrade settings. Distinguish active consumer demand from an old standby-device subtotal; changing the factory to match an outdated subtotal can lead you to build unnecessary fuel capacity.
- When should I use the Cauldron Calculator instead?
- Use it when the decision is which ingredient combination makes the desired cauldron output. Use the Production Planner for the wider production chain and the Heating Calculator when the decision is how to supply that chain with fuel.
