Choose the routing behavior first
A Priority Splitter sends incoming items toward its first output preferentially. A Balanced Splitter divides incoming coins or raw materials evenly between its outputs. A Filter Splitter separates the items you choose.
Compare splitter types
| Splitter type | Routing behavior |
|---|---|
| Priority Splitter | One conveyor input and two outputs; input items are prioritized for the first output. |
| Balanced Splitter | One conveyor input and two outputs; coins or raw materials are divided evenly. |
| Filter Splitter | Filters out the chosen items from the incoming flow. |
Check a starved or backed-up branch
- Identify which branch should receive priority. With a Priority Splitter, the first output is served preferentially, so check that output before expecting equal distribution.
- Use a Balanced Splitter when the goal is equal distribution of coins or raw materials, or use a Filter Splitter when the branch needs selected items.
- Check the overall branch layout. Repeated equal splits along a line send diminishing shares to later branches, while a balanced arrangement can distribute the flow evenly. Match the arrangement to how much each destination needs.
Manifolds and balanced branches
- Should every machine line use a balanced splitter tree?
- A manifold can work for a line of machines, while balanced branches suit a goal of even distribution. Choose according to the production goal and inspect the downstream demand instead of assuming every branching layout supplies the same share.
- Why does a chain of equal splits feed later branches less?
- Each split divides the remaining flow again. In the illustrated branching pattern, the first machine receives half, the next a quarter and the next an eighth; an evenly balanced split arrangement serves a different purpose.
