Alchemy Factory Fully Refined Sand and the Diamond Chain
Follow the six sand-refining stages, balance Refiner inputs, and continue through shards and crystals to Diamond and Perfect Diamond.

Six refining passes from Sand
Fully Refined Sand is the result of six successive Refiner recipes after ordinary Sand. Each refining pass uses 2 of the previous grade to produce 1 of the next in 3 seconds at the base recipe speed.
Prepare and refine the Sand
- Start with a Grinder: 1 Stone becomes 1 Sand in 12 seconds.
- Feed 2 Sand into the first Refiner to make 1 Refined Sand in 3 seconds.
- Pass the Refined Sand through the next four grades in order. Every pass consumes 2 of its previous grade and produces 1 of the next grade in 3 seconds; these intermediate items share the displayed name Refined Sand.
- At the final sand-refining stage, combine 2 of the preceding Refined Sand grade to produce 1 Fully Refined Sand in 3 seconds.
Continue from sand to gems
- Use a Refiner to turn 2 Fully Refined Sand into 1 Crude Shard in 3 seconds.
- Use a Refiner to turn 2 Crude Shard into 1 Broken Shard in 3 seconds.
- Use a Refiner to turn 2 Broken Shard into 1 Dull Shard in 3 seconds.
- Use a Refiner to turn 2 Dull Shard into 1 Shattered Crystal in 3 seconds.
- Use a Refiner to turn 2 Shattered Crystal into 1 Crude Crystal in 3 seconds.
- Use a Refiner to turn 2 Crude Crystal into 1 Polished Crystal in 3 seconds.
- Use a Refiner to turn 2 Polished Crystal into 1 Adamant in 3 seconds.
- Use a Refiner to turn 2 Adamant into 1 Diamond in 3 seconds.
- Use a Refiner to turn 2 Diamond into 1 Perfect Diamond in 3 seconds.
Balance the refining line
- How should I connect and size each Refiner stage?
- A Refiner has two conveyor inputs and one conveyor output. Route its output into the next grade; each successive level needs half as many Refiners as the previous level because the material flow halves.
- How far beyond Fully Refined Sand is Diamond?
- Diamond is eight more refinement steps beyond Fully Refined Sand. It takes 16,384 original Sand to make one Diamond. Perfect Diamond adds another refinement after Diamond.
